A good meditation session requires practice, planning, and effort. Developing the mental awareness to think of little and keep an open mind is deceptively difficult.
There are two broad types of meditation that practitioners use to effectively shift focus: concentration meditation and mindfulness meditation.
In concentration meditation, practitioners focus on a single point, such as their breathing or a mantra, which is a repeated word or sound to aid concentration. Practitioners must continually focus on that point to maintain their awareness.
In mindfulness meditation, practitioners observe wandering thoughts as they become aware of them. This form of meditation enables practitioners to track their own natural intuitions and feelings and observe their own judgments with greater awareness.
